Echoes of Earth is a sculptural sound installation created for OBEN’s 2025 Art Basel presentation. The series explores how vibration—emotional, geological, and sonic—moves through matter and accumulates in physical form. Each sculpture is wrapped in layered natural fibers and hand-applied pigments that echo sediment, mineral deposits, and the slow intelligence of the natural world.
The saturated palette draws from elemental forces: fire, volcanic reds, mineral blacks, horizon blues, and earth-worn neutrals. These tones mirror the emotional landscape of the work—grief, renewal, grounding, emergence—and give each piece a visceral, earth-rooted presence.
An original score radiates outward in widening waves, transforming the installation into an immersive field. Sound becomes an unseen architecture, shaping atmosphere, movement, and presence.
As with all OBEN works, the series unites handcrafted sculptural forms with specialty high-fidelity drivers. Each piece is shaped to enhance resonance, allowing the form to participate in the sound and revealing the subtle pulse within technology. The work becomes a meditation on vibration as a living material.
THE TECTONIC SERIES — Collector Overview
The Tectonic Series consists of three one-of-one sculptural sound works: Tectonic I, Tectonic II, and Tectonic III. Created as part of the Echoes of Earth movement, the Tectonic works examine the forces that shape both earth and emotion: pressure, fracture, tension, rise, and renewal.
Each sculpture is handcrafted using layered natural fibers and pigment, built around a specialty high-fidelity driver, and shaped to enhance acoustic resonance. Together, the trio forms a geological and emotional sequence: pressure → fracture → rise.
The pieces may be acquired individually or as a unified series.

Tectonic I - PRESSURE
Tectonic I explores geological pressure and the slow accumulation of forces beneath the surface. Wrapped in layers of fiber and pigment that echo sediment and mineral compression, the work carries a grounded, anchoring presence. Built around a high-fidelity driver, the sculpture’s geometry enhances resonance, allowing the form to participate in the sound and revealing vibration as a living material.
Tectonic II - FRACTURE
Tectonic II examines fracture, tension, and emergence. Its exterior evokes geological strata disrupted by movement. The form is engineered to shape acoustic resonance, turning sound into a spatial phenomenon. Vibration radiates outward in widening waves, embodying OBEN’s exploration of thresholds between matter, sound, and presence.
Tectonic III - RISE
Tectonic III reflects uplift, renewal, and the continuous motion of earth. Pigment and fiber layers echo geological rise and transformation. The form channels vibration outward into space, merging geological language with sonic architecture. The work embodies OBEN’s meditative approach to resonance, where sound, form, and technology share a living pulse.
MATERIALS AND CRAFT
Each Tectonic work begins with a custom internal structure, hand-sculpted and wrapped in layered natural fibers selected for tension, texture, and resonance. Pigments are applied in multiple layers to create geological depth, tonal variation, and a sense of temporal accumulation.
The tactile, additive process resembles sediment formation. No two pieces are ever the same; each carries a unique resonance profile and visual identity.
SOUND DESIGN AND DRIVERS
OBEN sculptures are built around specialty high-fidelity drivers chosen for clarity, warmth, and dynamic range. Sculpture and sound evolve together, with the geometry of each form tailored to enhance resonance and expand the acoustic field.
The works function as sound instruments as much as sculptural objects. Each is tuned by ear to create a dimensional, immersive listening experience.
